Summer Fruit Festival

The NSW Chamber of Fruit and Vegetables, aka Freshmark, have been running the charity Summer Fruit Auction at the Sydney Markets for years.

This October, the Summer Fruit Auction will be expanded into the Summer Fruit Festival and it will run over four days in Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour.

I’m proud to be involved in promoting this worthwhile event as its ambassador.

What is the Summer Fruit Festival?

It is about celebrating the arrival of summer fruits (and vegetables), healthy eating, and engaging in a healthy active lifestyle. It will have all the colour, sounds and smells of a farmers’ market plus the buzz, hype and vibe of an outdoor festival – all for a good cause!

What’s on offer?

- Food stalls to suit anyone’s palate.

- Classes by industry experts, about the nutritional benefits of fruit and vegetables and how the fresh produce industry works.

- Activities run by sporting associations such as athletics, volleyball, golf, table tennis and football.

- Marquees with exhibitors from across the industry showing what fresh fruit and vegetables have to offer.

- On the Saturday evening the Summer Fruit Ball will be held at the Four Points Sheraton, just a short walk from the festival and Kings Wharf.

- Ticketed, private function gourmet lunch and dinner on each of the days.

Live cooking demonstrations onstage, including by yours truly – I plan to show you how to give an Asian twist to your summer fruit and vegetable recipes 😉

I had the opportunity to visit the Wholesale Market at Flemington’s Sydney Markets last Friday, and had the privilege of chatting with some of the wholesalers and traders who are part of the fruit and vegetable supply chain of NSW. Over the following weeks leading up to the event, I’d be looking to share some stories and recipes through my online posts and Live video broadcasts, so be sure to keep an eye out for them 🙂
